Privacy Policy

Last updated: 27 June 2026

Revolt.Inc ("we", "us", "our") operates the Reelm desktop application (the "App") and the website reelm.rvsg.net (the "Website"). This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our App and Website, in compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 ("GDPR") and applicable data protection laws.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. Reelm is designed with a privacy-first approach: the App stores all of your library data locally on your device, it operates no user accounts, it collects no personal data for advertising, and it transmits no usage telemetry or analytics. The only data that leaves your device is described below, namely the metadata lookups performed through our metadata service and basic connectivity, update and legal-document checks.

1. The Website (reelm.rvsg.net)

Our Website is hosted on Cloudflare. When you visit the Website, the following applies:

  • Hosting, security and caching: Cloudflare processes your IP address and standard request data (such as browser type, operating system, referring URL, pages visited and timestamps) in order to deliver the Website and to provide security, performance and caching. This processing is necessary to operate the Website and is carried out in accordance with Cloudflare's own privacy practices.
  • Privacy-focused analytics: Any analytics we use is privacy-focused, cookieless and aggregate-only. It does not collect personally identifiable information (PII) and does not track individual users across sites or build profiles. It provides only aggregate metrics such as page views and visit counts.
  • Strictly-necessary local storage: The Website uses only strictly-necessary local storage for basic functionality, such as remembering that you dismissed the cookie banner and storing your language preference. No advertising or third-party tracking cookies are used.

For full details, see our Cookie Policy.

2. The Desktop App

The Reelm App is built around the principle that your media library stays on your device. The following describes how the App handles data.

2.1 Data Stored Locally on Your Device

All of your library data is stored exclusively on your device, inside the App's own packaged application data folder. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us. It includes:

  • Media library database: An index of your video files, including file paths, file names, file sizes, duration and codec information.
  • Metadata: Movie and series information (titles, descriptions, cast, posters and backdrops) retrieved through our metadata service and cached locally.
  • Watch history: Playback progress, watch counts and last-watched dates for each video.
  • Playlists: The playlists you create, including smart playlists.
  • App settings: Your preferences, language and interface configuration.
  • File hashes: BLAKE3 content hashes used for file deduplication.
  • Application logs: Local debug and error logs for troubleshooting. These are written only to your device and are never uploaded.
  • Image cache: Cached poster and backdrop images.

You can delete all locally stored data at any time using the Factory Reset option in the App's settings, which permanently removes the App's local data and all its contents.

2.2 Metadata Service (TMDB)

To show movie and series information, Reelm retrieves metadata from The Movie Database (TMDB). You do not provide a TMDB API key of your own; instead, the App sends metadata requests to our metadata service, which holds the API credentials and forwards the request to TMDB on your behalf.

The information sent to the service when you look something up consists of your search query (the title or identifier of the movie or series), your language preference (so results are returned in your language) and your IP address (visible to the service as part of any internet request).

Our metadata service logs, server-side, the request IP address together with the search query it received. We rely on this logging on a legitimate-interest basis (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) to operate and secure the service, to prevent abuse and to apply rate-limiting, and to protect the shared API credentials. These logs are retained for no longer than approximately 90 days and are then deleted or anonymised. They are not used for profiling and are not tied to any user account.

The metadata service forwards your query (but not your client IP) to TMDB so that TMDB can return the requested metadata. Your use of TMDB-sourced data is also subject to TMDB's own privacy practices. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.

2.3 Other Network Connections

Apart from the metadata service, the App makes only the following limited network connections, none of which transmit your personal data, library contents or search history:

  • Connectivity checks (msftconnecttest.com): A standard connectivity probe used to detect whether an internet connection is available before attempting metadata lookups. Your IP address is visible to the responding server as part of any internet request.
  • Update and legal-document checks (reelm.rvsg.net): Standard HTTPS requests used to check for application updates and to retrieve the current legal documents (this Privacy Policy, the EULA and similar). Your IP address is visible to the server as part of any internet request.

2.4 Bundled Media Player

The MPV media player is bundled inside the application package and is not downloaded at runtime. It runs as a separate local process and communicates with Reelm on your device only; it does not transmit your data to us.

2.5 No Telemetry, No Advertising

Reelm contains no advertising of any kind and includes no usage telemetry, analytics or crash-reporting SDK. No usage data, crash reports, advertising identifiers or behavioural metrics are collected or transmitted. There is nothing to opt out of because nothing is sent.

3. Data We Do NOT Collect

Reelm does not collect, process or transmit:

  • Personal identification information (name, email address, postal address or phone number)
  • Account credentials or login information (no user accounts exist)
  • Location data or GPS coordinates
  • Contacts, calendar or phone data
  • Photos, camera or microphone input
  • Clipboard content
  • Browsing history or search history outside the App
  • Financial or payment information
  • Biometric data
  • Advertising identifiers (the App contains no advertising)
  • Usage analytics, device fingerprints or behavioural telemetry (the App contains no analytics SDK)
  • The contents of your media files

Reelm itself does not log your IP address. The only personal data processed on our side is the IP address and search query recorded by the metadata service, as described in Section 2.2.

4. Your Rights Under GDPR

If you are located in the European Union or European Economic Area, you have the following rights under the GDPR:

  • Right of access: We hold no personal profiles. The only personal data we process is the IP address and query recorded in the service access logs (Section 2.2); because these logs are not tied to an account, we may be unable to identify which entries relate to you without additional information you provide.
  • Right to rectification: The service access logs are factual technical records and are not generally rectifiable; no personal profile is stored. You can edit your library, preferences and settings directly within the App at any time.
  • Right to erasure: You can delete all local data via Factory Reset or by uninstalling the App. The service access logs are automatically deleted within the retention period (Section 2.2).
  • Right to data portability: Your local data is stored in standard formats and can be copied or backed up at any time from the App's data folder.
  • Right to restriction and to object: You may object to or request restriction of the service-log processing by contacting us; note that metadata lookups cannot function without contacting the metadata service.
  • Right to lodge a complaint: You may file a complaint with the Italian Data Protection Authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali) at garanteprivacy.it, or with the supervisory authority of your country of residence.

When the metadata service forwards your query to TMDB, that request may be processed on servers located outside the European Economic Area. Such transfers rely on appropriate safeguards (for example Standard Contractual Clauses) or other lawful transfer mechanisms where required. To exercise any of your rights, contact us at [email protected].

5. Data Retention and Deletion

Local data created by the App is retained on your device until you choose to delete it, either through the in-app Factory Reset or by uninstalling the App. We have no access to and do not retain any copy of your local data.

On our side, the only records relating to you are the metadata service access logs (IP address and query), which are retained for no longer than approximately 90 days and are then deleted or anonymised. Website request data processed by Cloudflare is subject to Cloudflare's own retention policies.

6. Security

Your local data is stored in your user profile's application data folder, protected by your Windows user account permissions. All connections to our metadata service and to other third-party services use HTTPS/TLS. We do not maintain any server-side database of user accounts or user profiles; the only server-side records relating to you are the time-limited service access logs described in Section 2.2.

7. Children and Age

Reelm carries an all-ages content rating (IARC 3+) and is a general-audience media player; it is not specifically directed at children. Reelm requires no account and asks for no personal details, and it does not knowingly collect personal data from children. The only personal data processed is the request IP address and search query handled by the metadata service on a legitimate-interest basis (Section 2.2); this is not used to build profiles and is not collected through any child-directed feature.

Because Reelm relies on legitimate interest rather than consent for these limited operational logs, and offers no accounts or profiling, it does not require parental consent under the applicable digital-consent age, which varies by country (for example, 14 in Italy under Legislative Decree 101/2018). The App contains no age-restricted content of its own, but it can display metadata and play media of any age rating that you provide or look up; a parent or guardian should supervise use by minors accordingly. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us at [email protected] and we will take appropriate steps to address it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in the App, the Website, applicable laws or our practices. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy, post the updated policy on our Website, and where appropriate notify you through the App. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
